Summer is almost here, and you can feel it.
The sun stays out longer, the air feels warmer, and conversations start to shift. People are talking about plans, vacations, and everything they are looking forward to once school ends. It feels close enough to reach.
At Stuart, this time of year always feels a little different. There is still work to do. Tests, projects, and final assignments have not gone away, but the energy has changed. The same routines are there, just harder to move through.
As the days go on, it becomes easier to lose focus. You walk into class, sit down, and try to pay attention, but your mind drifts more than it used to. You look outside a little longer, and instead of thinking about the lesson, your thoughts go somewhere else. Maybe it is the beach, the sound of waves, or the feeling of warm sand. Maybe it is something smaller, like a cold smoothie on a hot day or sitting outside with nothing you have to get done.
For a moment, it feels real.
Then you look back down, and the work is still there.
It is not that students do not care anymore. It is just that things feel different now. The same work is there, but it takes more effort to stay focused, especially when everything around you is starting to change.
The last stretch is that space in between. You are not at the beginning anymore, but you are not quite at the end either. You can see what is coming, but you still have to get there, and that can be the hardest part.
At the same time, there is something good about it. There is more laughter in the hallways, and people stay outside a little longer after school. Even small moments feel lighter than they did during the winter.
Spring brings that feeling back. It reminds us that things do not stay the same forever. Long days eventually turn into lighter ones, and even when things feel slow, they are still moving forward.
The last stretch is not about being perfect or suddenly having more energy than before. It is simply about finishing, one assignment and one day at a time.
Before you know it, summer will be here, and everything you are working through now will be behind you.
