During the summer, lots of people wish they could just be at the beach every day, go to carnivals, and cruise through life with no issues. Unfortunately, that’s not all of our realities. This week, some of the kids in journalism class were asked what their dream summer would be vs. the summer they will actually live.

Our co-heads of The Tartan, Leila and Sami, have similar dream summers. Leila wishes to spend her summer travelling, preferably to a beach in Puerto Rico. Sami wishes to spend her summer travelling with her boyfriend. The reality is, though, that Leila will still be at the beach, hopefully getting a job, and Sami will be working at the summer camp here at Stuart! They will also both be waiting patiently for their college move-in days, ready to begin their new chapters.
Juliet and Celia would love to spend their summers “sitting in bed, doing nothing.” Everyone needs a little rest, and they both agree that summer is the perfect time for that. Almost hitting the jackpot, Celia will be doing some community service over the summer, but then just sitting in bed resting. Juliet will be another person working here at Stuart over the summer! While her dream involves being home resting and maybe even winning the lottery, she said that she wouldn’t change her summer at all. She loves working with the kids, and she would rather be doing that than anything else.
Abby’s dream summer would be spent in Europe. She loves the continent, and as long as she was travelling through Europe, she would be happy. Fortunately for the Stuart community, though, Abby will also be spending her summer here helping with camp! We are so happy to have her and all of our other lovely student employees. Marlie, on the contrary, would spend her summer happily at home. Her dream summer consists of playing “Animal Crossing”, playing with her dogs, and going to national parks. Instead, she will be at Chamber Music Festivals, which are summer intensives to help her improve playing her instrument, the cello.

Betsy’s dream summer has some similarities with her peers, like traveling, but she would also like to “make money without working.” Surely, many people can relate to that! However, she too will be spending her summer at Stuart. Before coming to camp, she will go on the Appalachian Service Project in Virginia with some other upper schoolers. While Betsy is spending her entire summer with the Stuart community in different aspects, Zoe will actually be living her dream summer. She said she would spend her summer at the beach, and she is really doing just that!
Lastly, our teacher, Ms. Meyrick, would love to have a summer surrounded by her friends and family as much as possible. She dreams of travelling, really soaking in the summer weather, and doing lots of reading for her leisure. While some of these aspects are achievable, she will be spending some of her summer trying to find a new apartment. Fortunately for her, however, she will spend the other part of her summer in Australia with family and friends!
The journalism class at Stuart has so much of a variety of dream summers, but most of our realities are the same. We have lots of employees for the Stuart Summer Experience, but if anyone else is looking for work, make sure to contact us! One day, we all will be able to live our dream summers. The success that’ll grant us that opportunity is just waiting outside our doorsteps, and we are all ready to go grab it!
