With prom season upon us , it seems the opportune moment to take a look back at this year’s Met Gala, “Fashion’s Biggest Night,” for some much-needed celebrity fashion inspo. The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala or Costume Institute Benefit, is the annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The Met Gala is regarded as one of the world’s most famous and glamorous fashion events. This year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfield: A Line of Beauty,” paid tribute to the late designer, celebrating his life and accomplishments.
The list of attendees included celebrities such as Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Margot Robbie, Gigi Hadid, A$AP Rocky, Rihanna (what would the Met Gala be without Rihanna?), and many more.
Who were the best dressed celebs of the night? Below is my list where I break down each outfit in more detail.
Rihanna
“It’s Valentino, baby.” Rihanna wore a custom, all-white Maison Valentino wedding gown that featured a five meter train and a coat with 30 camelias made of 500 petals. To accessorize, she wore a Bulgari high jewelry necklace and Belperron pavé diamond earrings. Considering her fashion game is always on fleek, Miss Rihanna did not disappoint.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi is already a pro at dressing up for the Met Gala considering the number of appearances that she’s made throughout her career. This year, the supermodel graced the red carpet in a custom Givenchy sheer black dress with transparent draped fabric over one of her shoulders extending out into a train, plus a bustier underneath. She wore sheer black Calzedonia tights and black heels. To accessorize, Gigi wore a pearl and diamond choker and diamond stud earrings by Lagos. We love it, Gigi!
Dua Lipa
The princess has arrived! Dua showed up to the carpet early due to her role as co-chair for the night. She wore a cream Chanel tweed gown featuring black trim and a fringe hemline. The structured skirt was a nod to a princess/ball gown. She accessorized with a never-before-seen Tiffany & Co diamond necklace.
Bad Bunny
Benito came to the Met and took the spotlight. Known for his risk-taking fashion, Beniot donned an all white look by Jaquemus, featuring a tweed blazer and long rosette train. Bad Bunny is officially entering his fashion era and I am here for it.
Penelope Cruz
The Spanish actress is no newcomer to the Met Gala. At this year’s Met, she graced the carpet in a Chanel gown that featured a white organza hood with silver sequins and elaborate crystal embroidery at the hem and bodice. She finished the look with a belt including a shimmering buckle. The gown featured 130,000 crystals and over 26,000 stones and custom jewelry. Her boldness and confidence on the carpet could be seen from a mile away.
Naomi Campbell
Ladies and Gentlemen – The one and only Naomi Campbell! The iconic supermodel stunned in her silky pink Chanel look draped over one shoulder like a saree. The dress was adorned with a shimmering silver bodice and floral appliques. To accessorize, she wore Tiffany & Co jewelry.
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman graced the red carpet in an archival, Karl Lagerfield-era Chanel Haute Couture gown from 2004. If the dress looks familiar, it’s because she originally wore it in a Chanel commercial. The gorgeous gown is made of pink silk tulle, embroidered with 250 pink ostrich feathers, and features 3,000 silver crystals and sequins. To accessorize, she wore Harry Winston chandelier earrings, a Harry Winston diamond ring, and a 1955 jewelry watch by Swiss brand Sapphette. By re-wearing this gown, Kidman proved that Karl Lagerfield’s designs are indeed timeless.
Alia Bhatt
The Bollywood actress (who is also one of my favorite Bollywood actresses) made her official debut at the Met Gala this year! Her stunning white-pearl beaded gown by designer Prabal Gurung landed her on the list of the best-dressed celebs from the night. Made of ivory silk tulle and satin organza the ball gown featured 100,000 embroidered pearls. Alia finished off the look with fingerless embellished gloves and diamond earrings.
