The 2023 season has just begun, and people of all sorts are coming together to share meals and gifts. In light of the new year, we’re on the lookout for a comfortable and casual restaurant with classic American-style food.
For this dining review, we’re venturing down to Palmer Square and dining at “Princeton’s Pub,” Winberie’s! As stated on its website, Winberie’s has been serving the Princeton community since 1984. They offer small plates, house-made specialties, and select wine and beer for adult customers.
Upon entry, we were greeted with a warmly lit room filled with amiable chatter. The space is well decorated with a rustic theme, and the seating is very comfortable. As for service, our waiter was attentive and quick to take our orders.
He offered us a few food recommendations, starting off with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts appetizer. Doused in a mildly spicy sriracha sauce, the brussel sprouts were deliciously flavorful, yet not overpowering.
For the main course, we were recommended the Cajun Macaroni & Cheese. This dish is certified to satisfy the palette of any pasta enjoyer. The spicy cheese sauce melts on the tongue quite nicely, and the bacon adds a smokey flavor to the cavatappi pasta. Additionally, we ordered the Short Rib Fettuccine. Doused in a red wine braised short rib ragu, the dish has a meaty flavor with hints of basil and parmesan. Notably, the pasta in both dishes was perfectly al dente.
I can’t speak for myself here, but a fellow customer commented the savory pasta mixes perfectly with a glass of wine.
It’s not a complete dinner without dessert, so our group ordered the Apple Crisp and Warm Chocolate Brownie Custard. The Apple Crisp crumble was sweet and warm, and the apples themselves were thoroughly cooked and spiced.
“The brownie has a cake consistency– moist, not too dense, and rich in flavor,” commented Deanna, a taste tester from the group. The brownie crust is tasty but slightly thin, which offsets the dish a bit, but the flavor alone earned it a solid 8.5/10.
Overall, we were very pleased with the quality of service and food. The pricing itself was reasonable for the portion sizes.
“I would not be mad if this was our school lunch,” commented Sam. Although that would be nice, this meal is best enjoyed on an occasion!
