The 2022 NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) will be held in San Antonio, TX, Nov. 30–Dec. 3. Stuart students will have the opportunity to make a national difference at SDLC. The application was posted Sept. 13 and offered to 11th and 12th grade students.
This year’s SDLC theme is ‘We The People: Leveraging Our Community to Preserve Our Humanity,’ which aligns with Stuart’s values and goals. Stuart promotes agency and voice, encouraging students to support their peers not only in the classroom, but in sports and clubs. They are also encouraged to advocate for themselves through dialogue with friends, leaning into issues that that affect them.
SDLC will give Stuart’s upperclassmen the opportunity to share their experiences with others, but also learn from people with whom they share an affinity and whom they can connect with via allyship.
As SDLC honors its 25th anniversary, it continues to teach students and adults the ins, outs, and gray areas of social justice through discussions, education, and advocacy. Within the huge global network, SDLC offers small groups for in-depth conversations, fostering confidence and safety in sharing opinions and concerns. The face of America is changing every second; for many, it is difficult to navigate. This conference is a vehicle to talk and understand each other outside of the school environment.
The students attending from Stuart are: Brittney Barnwell ’24, Alisa Deczynski ’23, Giselle Jean-Marie ’24, Deanna Missouri ’23, Layna Tarbotton ’24, and Noelle Wescott ’23.
