Stuart Country Day School is known for its vast and varied collection of student activities, including clubs, academic teams, student committees, and affinity groups; ranging from Math Club to Spirit Committee, Diversity Club to Cornhole Club, students can find it all. To make this selection less overwhelming, The Tartan will be featuring monthly interviews and insights into the world of Upper School activities. The first of these features one of Stuart’s affinity groups: PRISM.
PRISM’s main goal, according to club head Tess Chiarello, is “to create a safe-space for people to express their feelings and opinions and feel like they have a community within the school.” Tess adds that the club is open to both LGBTQ+ members and allies and “offers a learning opportunity to people who might not know a lot about all of the different parts of the LGBTQ+ community.” The group spends their meetings both getting to know and also educating one another, covering various topics and issues. When asked what two to three words would describe PRISM, Tess listed these stellar descriptors: “community, togetherness, and fun” (with added emphasis on the “fun”).
Left wondering what fun plans PRISM has in store for the rest of the year? Fear not. In June, PRISM is looking to give a presentation to the Upper School about the different uses of pronouns, pride month, and LGBTQ+ history. But there is no need to wait until June to join the conversation – stop by one of their meetings to learn more and contribute to this exciting group.

If you are interested in attending a meeting, you can find PRISM during office hours on Fridays in Ms. Ryan’s room.
