On Nov. 22 the Student Center at Stuart Country Day School will officially open as a community lunchroom. Construction began last May, and six months later it is on the verge of being complete. The Student Center will not only serve lunch, but will also be a place for students to gather for a multitude of events.
The week leading up to the opening of the Student Center, all members of the Stuart community will have a chance to partake in full lunch service. Non-faculty staff and administration will be the first inside on Nov. 15, and in the following two days, the Upper School and Middle School will also get the chance to try out the facilities. Ending the week will be the Lower School who are taking two days to test out the Student Center. The first day will be for them to learn the layout, and the following they will actually use the food services.
This new space is set to be more open concept than the old Stuart cafeteria. There are no more separate rooms within the cafeteria, and it is now one completely open space. The color scheme is more bright, no more dark green bricks. The long uniform tables have also been replaced with more varied seating arrangements. There is even a section that can be closed off if requested, which will most likely be for meetings like StuGov. The entire space is filled with energy and will be the perfect communal gathering place.
During construction, Stuart felt the ripple effect of supply chain shortages across the country. The construction of the Stuart Center was forced to be pushed back a number of times due to the fact that the workers did not have the materials necessary to continue working. These supply chain shortages have impacted many major industries from the automotive industry to technology. Thankfully, Stuart finally got the supplies they needed to complete the Student Center, but many other places are still struggling to fulfill work quotas due to these continuing supply chain issues.
