On Wednesday, Oct. 27 the Stuart Field Hockey team took on Montclair Kimberley Academy for the Prep B State Championship. The game took place at Stuart Country Day School with a 3 p.m. start time.
“They are a good team and so are we and I think that it will be a really good game,” said Tartan co-captain Audrey Blandford, prior to the game.
The teams were certainly well-matched, with Stuart seeded #1 and MKA seeded #2.
“We have worked really hard, with practices and games,” said co-captain Kaitlyn Magnani. “But we have also been preparing mentally.”
Not only were the players ready for the final matchup, the entire community got involved.
During morning meeting in the Upper School, Dr. Marissa Muoio, Head of the Upper School, hyped up the students by initiating a call-and-response. She yelled “Fear!” and students responded “The deer!” The excitement did not stop there. The first and second graders made posters that were hung up in the hallway the morning of the game.
While the outcome was not what the Tartan team hoped, the energy at the game was palpable. The Stuart Community came out and showed their support when it mattered most. All three divisions on one field, cheering on one team, demonstrated what it means to be a Stuart Tartan.
That evening, Dr. Muoio shared words of appreciation with the Upper School:
“To our Field Hockey Team and Coach Bruvik — we are so proud of the season you have had, the way that you played, and the heart that you demonstrated in today’s game. We are immensely proud of you.”
