When walking through the halls of Stuart, you’ve probably seen Ms. Elizabeth Maurer in passing. You may have seen over the summer running around with students as part of her role as director of the Stuart Summer Experience. You’re more likely to see her in the Learning Center where she serves as the Upper School Learning Specialist.
Ms. Maurer was born in sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but during her childhood, she moved around a lot. Growing up, she lived in places like North Carolina, Chicago, New Jersey, and Yardley, Pennsylvania. Regardless of where she was, though, a big constant in her life was her love of babysitting; she always felt drawn to working with children.
Ms. Maurer is a proud Pennsbury School District and Penn State University graduate. She has had many titles over the years, including a certified guidance counselor. She did this for seven years and still has her guidance counselor certification. She soon realized she could help kids more directly by becoming a teacher. Before joining the Stuart community, she worked with special needs students at Central Bucks. She also taught at Villa Victoria Academy (for 15 years), which is an all-girls Catholic school. While she worked there, she launched a Learning Center. She says she ultimately chose Stuart because she has a passion for all-girls schools and loves the religious part of the school. One lesson she has learned from working at Stuart is that “schools are so much better when they focus on the whole child, each and every individual child.”
Outside of school, family is very important to Ms. Maurer. She has three amazing stepchildren, all from the Bensalem area, who have added so much joy to her life.
Ms. Maurer has had constant dedication to the Sacred Heart Network for many years. Overall, Ms. Maurer is one of those people who really seems like she’s doing what she is meant to do. Whether she is helping students through writing an essay before the period runs out or guiding a student through a difficult test, girls education is something she clearly cares, and that matters more than anything. Mrs. Maurer’s story shows how much she cares about each and every student and why she’s such an important part of our community.
