It’s that time of year again. The sun is out, birds are chirping, and you are starting to feel the pollen dust in the air around you. That’s right! It’s springtime! While we all love the beauty of nature, today, we’re talking about the beauty within— your closet, that is, and whatever you decide to wear out and about. You may be feeling overwhelmed after exclusively sticking to sweaters and corduroys for the past few months, but fear not. This article will introduce you to all things spring fashion this season, including what you should wear to “go outside and smell the roses.”
1) The Fisherman Aesthetic
Nothing says spring like being on a boat in the open water, so why not wear the traditional “fisherman” style out and about! This look mainly consists of a few different things that you can mix and match:
- Stripes: Mainly medium sized in either black and white, or white and navy blue
- Touches of beige: Either beige pants, a beige jacket, or beige accessories (headbands, scarves, bracelets, etc.)
- Gold: Similarly to beige, gold can manifest in your sailor inspired looks through accessories such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings!
- Pearls: Capture that touch of sea life in your accessories as well! Wear pearl earrings, necklaces, or even headbands to go along with your stripes.
- Coastal Clothing: The fisherman look can also be similar to coastal clothing which consists of linen trousers, shirts, vests, and blousy tops.
2) Elevated Athleisure
If you’re planning on spending a spring day by walking through the park or doing something a little more relaxing, consider trying out elevated athleisure. This look consists of traditional workout clothes but with a slight twist. Elevated athleisure looks tend to have cleaner seams and softer-looking yet plain fabric. You may not put on your athletic wear with jewelry, but seeing as elevated athleisure is made for day-to-day wear, you are welcome to throw some on to continue elevating your look.
3) Elegant Trenches
When I say trenches, I mean trench coats. Don’t worry, there’s no mud around here! We all know how a basic trench coat looks. It’s a little boxy on top with a bit of flare at the bottom. Well, this spring, we’re bringing out the new and improved trench coats. These 2025 trench coats are basically dresses that can be thrown on top of your already elegant outfit. Some consist of ruffles at the bottom, an asymmetrical hem with frills, or even just a simple trench coat that flares into a circle skirt at the bottom. Regardless of which style you choose, all of them possess a sense of elegance that wasn’t present in previous versions.
4) 70s Boho
The past few trends focused a lot on elevating your fashion, but we all know that sometimes, we’d rather have a more relaxed style. That doesn’t mean that this trend has to be very plain, though! The bohemian style is often associated with the 70s and is characterized by flowy, windswept fabrics, which can turn out to be similar to the coastal looks we just discussed. The boho look also tends to carry a lot of frills, relaxed lace, and overall, many textures and patterns. This versatility makes it very adaptable to any season, but we just happen to love it a little more in spring!
5) Vintage Florals
Florals are always considered the epitome of springtime, but this year, we’re mixing up a little bit once more and focusing on an older floral look. Vintage florals hold more of a charm to them and can fit a variety of different aesthetics. Think “grandma” blouses, old tablecloths, and old curtains. Since thrifting is very popular now, this is also a great style to lookout for on your next trip to the thrift store!
6) Preppy/Academia
Many are happy about not having to wear uniforms, but sometimes, they can turn out to be a great convenience. This trend can give you a chance to try out the uniform look as well as many other traditional pieces. Here are a few pieces you can try to match this trend:
- Collared Shirts: Polos and collars just scream business. These pieces make an excellent base for any preppy outfit and can be layered with a variety of items.
- Sweaters: A simple light sweater is a perfect piece for the weather doesn’t want to make up its mind. Plain sweaters continue to elevate outfits, as they can appear to be very elegant.
- Pleats: Simple folds continue to tie a look together. Whether they are worn on your trousers or skirts, they give off a very academic feel.
- Loafers: These very versatile shoes can match many an occasion. They just also happen to work with any studious outfit you may want to throw together.
7) Ladies Who Lunch
Don’t want to dress like a student but still want to appear in a preppy manner? Maybe you’ll identify more with the “ladies who lunch” look. Now you don’t have to suddenly plan a lunch with your friends to put this look together for yourself (it’s just a saying), but it definitely emulates the feeling of a lady on her way to afternoon tea or something of the sort. It’s a very accessible look that’s suitable for many an occasion. This look consists of a few different ideas:
- Matching sets: Vests and skirts are great, either pleated skirts or pencil skirts. Envision the iconic Chanel two piece set.
- Tweed: Tweed is a very sophisticated fabric and is perfect for bridging winter and spring together. It is very common for “ladies who lunch.”
- Classic Hats: Now this is definitely not for everyone, but it can most certainly throw your look over the top. A traditional pillbox or bowler hat is most fitting for this idea.
8) Excessive Accessories
A lot of us already like to wear bangles upon bangles up our arms, but lucky for us, this is an excuse to continue this practice. Spring 2025 is inviting us to go a little overboard with our accessories. Whether you want to stack your jewelry like there’s no tomorrow or wear the biggest, gaudiest pieces of costume jewelry you’ve ever seen, go for it! The sky’s the limit!
9) Patterns Galore
Throughout the styles I’ve mentioned thus far, I’ve alluded to some patterns, but there are some that are considered standalone that can fit into many categories:
- Checkers: Otherwise known as gingham, this boxy pattern can fit on anything from a frolicking dress to a put-together blouse. However you decide to wear it, just know that you are in perfect fashion for a spring day.
- Polka Dots: Polka dots can make anyone happy just by looking at them and pop in any crowd. This cheery pattern can’t help but be associated with spring.
10) Medley of Colors
Last but certainly not least, there are certain colors below that will ensure your outfits this spring will be deemed as extra fashionable. We have our traditional pastels of course, but that’s a little vague. You don’t have to exclusively wear bright colors every day for the next couple of months! Here’s a little guide that holds a few specifics:
- Butter Yellow: I personally love this color because it’s not too common, and it stands out! A bright shade for a bright day.
- Wispy Pink: The internet’s new favorite color! It’s a pale shade of pink that is very reminiscent of a little blossom. Perfect for the season.
- Clementine: We all love the fruit, so why not the color! Orange is often overlooked, but not this spring! It’s a great shade to start trying new colors with.
- Mocha Mousse: If you’re not a huge fan of bright colors, maybe try out a crisp mocha! It’s a very rich color, is versatile in terms of clothing, and works for more than just the spring season.
