Valentine’s Day: some love it, others not so much. This year, why not focus on loving yourself? Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or somewhere in between, self-love deserves to be celebrated. Here’s how to make this Valentine’s Day all about you.
Why Self-Love Matters
Some, including myself, have sometimes felt that self-love is selfish. . . until I heard this from RuPaul: “When you love yourself, you teach others how to love you.”
Taking care of yourself not only gains confidence, but it also improves your mental health and your relationship with others. Loving yourself first is the foundation for a happier and healthier life.
Ways to Practice Self-Love This Valentine’s Day
1) Plan a Solo Date: Watch your favorite movie, read a good book, or treat yourself to a cozy dinner and even some desert!
2) Pamper Yourself: Have a spa night with face mask, candles and relaxing music. Step it up with a warm bath.
3) Write a Love Letter to Yourself: Reflect on what makes you special and what you’re grateful for.
4) Unplug and Recharge: Take a break from social media and focus on what makes you happy.
5) Try Something New: Sign up for a class, bake a fun dessert, or start a creative project like a vision board.
Spread the Love
Self-love doesn’t always mean isolation. Share the day with friends or family by exchanging thoughtful notes with chocolate, or plan a Galentine’s celebration.
Make It Last All Year
This special day is a great reminder to prioritize yourself, but self-love is a year-round commitment just like anything else. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. So, treat yourself with the same care and kindness you give to others and believe you deserve it— because you do!
