Ms. Reeves, originally from South Jersey near Atlantic City, is Stuart Country Day School’s newest addition to the math department. She teaches Precalculus, Honors Precalculus, AP Statistics, Finance, and Calculus. Ms. Reeves has a strong background in math education, having graduated with honors from the University of Delaware with a degree in Math in Secondary Education, and taught Geometry and Precalculus as a student teacher.
Before joining Stuart, Ms. Reeves taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Calculus BC at a high school in St. Louis. During her two years there, she also pursued her Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. While teaching Precalculus during her time in St. Louis, she completed a research project in her second year, focusing on shifting math education from simply seeking the right or wrong answer to emphasizing the process of problem-solving.
Though her primary focus is math, Ms. Reeves also has a passion for English and enjoys reading in her free time. Impressively, she started graduate school just two weeks before finishing her undergraduate degree. Ms. Reeves is one of four siblings and grew up in North Jersey near Essex County. Her sister, who is just a year older, is her best friend.
When asked why she chose to work at Stuart, Ms. Reeves shared that after living in St. Louis, she was eager to return to New Jersey. From the moment she arrived at Stuart, she noticed something special about the community, particularly the school’s intentional focus on building relationships among students, teachers, and faculty. She was also drawn to the Sacred Heart values and excited to see the benefits of an all-girls education in a STEM class, which was a new perspective for her.
A fun fact about Ms. Reeves that not many people know is that when she lived in St. Louis, she attended Zumba classes with a group of older women. “I was the youngest person there by like 30 years,” she says, laughing.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Reeves loves spending time with her family and relaxing at the beach. Growing up, she rode her bike everywhere, though she doesn’t get the chance to do so as often now. She also enjoys any excuse to have a dance party, something she brings a lot of enthusiasm to.
Ms. Reeves’ decision to become a math teacher stems from her own experiences with impactful math teachers, particularly the ones who taught her Algebra 2, Calculus AB, and CalculusBC. She reflected on the unique relationships high school students build with their teachers, which differ from those in elementary or middle school. She’s passionate about math but loves how teaching allows her to interact with people in a way that makes work feel like something more fulfilling.
As she looks forward to the school year, Ms. Reeves is most excited to immerse herself in Stuart’s traditions and fun events. Having arrived last year during the week of the school musical, she’s eager to experience it fully this year, along with the other unique aspects of Stuart’s vibrant school culture.
