On November 21, 2023, Grandparents and Special Friends of students were invited to spend the half day before Thanksgiving break at Stuart. Normally offered to Lower and Middle School students, this was the first year Grandparents and Special Friends was extended to the Upper School. The morning started with breakfast and conversation in the student center, followed by the Thanksgiving Prayer Service.
During the service, many students, faculty and staff shared prayers in different languages. Students from each grade were also assigned to bring in a certain type of food for the food mandala which was assembled in the front hall. During the prayer service, a representative from each grade brought their assigned item forward.
After the service, the day ended with a volleyball game of students versus the faculty. Lillian Soroken, Class of ’24, who participated in the game said, “It was funny to see the competitive side of some of the teachers.” In addition to volleyball, there were activities available for visitors to enjoy with their students, some of which were service based for Loaves and Fishes. Other activities included bingo, arts and crafts, mini golf, puzzles, and more.
