The action-packed Friday included Flag Ceremony, Mass of the Holy Spirit presided over by the Most Reverend David Michael O’Connell, C.M., J.C.D, D.D., Bishop of Trenton, a community bonfire, and, arguably most exciting, Green and White day.
Green and White Day is a beloved tradition at Stuart, which is celebrating its 60th year, and students and faculty get quite competitive. Upon joining Stuart, every student and faculty/staff member is assigned a team: green or white. Each team works to paint the school Green and White, dressing up in team colors and showing their school.
“I brought my makeup for the first time in forever, I’ve got the green shirt, obviously, I’ve got my socks that have green in them, and I’m going to win this by eating some green cupcakes,” commented Izzy Stoltenberg ’27 (Team Green). Ty’Ani Jones ’27 (Green Team) added, “my face is green…my lashes are green.”
Students seemed to agree about which students traditionally show the most school spirit; none other than senior, Elise Price ’24 for the Green Team and Juliette Vergara ’25 for the White Team.
“I feel like that’s completely accurate,” said Vergara. “I do have the most team spirit! White team is going to crush it this year, I have no doubt! And even if we don’t we’ll do it in style.”
Brittney Barnwell ’24 noted that the Green team as a whole brought the most spirit to the day. “Do you see us? We have green all over ourselves. Also, the bricks around Stuart: green! Leaves: green! Mother nature: green!”
Going into the last event of the day, the scores were tied at 35. It was up to the seniors to bring home the victory. The green team raced across the finish line just before the white team– winning the day by a slim margin.
Price ’24 said, “our team came up with a plan, and we executed it perfectly to earn the win!”
Loa Lopez Spencer ’25 of the White Team noted, “White team is gracious when we win and when we lose.”
Some new favorite chants echoed out on the field during the competition, generated by Ms. Zosche, Dean of Student Life, Barnwell, Vergara, and Aryianna Johnson ’25.
Ms. Zosche (Green): “G-R-E-E-N, let’s do it, let’s win!”
Barnwell ’24 (Green): “I believe that we will win, I believe that we will win!”
Vergara ’25 (White): “Go white, white is the best, green sucks, white W!”
Johnson ’25 (White): “W-H-I-T-E, white team, white team, we will defeat, go white go white!”
The bonfire, held later that evening on the upper fields, featured the Jammin’ Crepes food truck serving some of their favorite crepes and a dance party hosted by Stuart’s favorite DJ James Myricks.
