After two grueling rounds of competition and a nail-biting jump off, Martin Fuchs reigned victorious in the $3,000,000 CPKC International Rolex Grand Prix. Fuchs galloped to the win across the Spruce Meadows grass on his KWPN gelding, Leone Jei, on September 10, 2023.
35 of the world’s best combinations entered in the first round, and only 12 advanced to the second round of the challenging 1.60m grand prix. Fuchs and Tiffany Foster were the only two on clean slates to earn a spot in the jump off. After Foster’s heartbreaking rail, Fuchs was able to gallop to the win with confidence. Following the emotional victory, Fuchs shared a few words on his Instagram account @martinfuchs_official.
“Since I was a little boy I’ve dreamed of winning this prestigious Grand Prix,” he captioned.
The victory proves additionally important, as it makes Fuchs the live contender for the Rolex Grand Slam. The CPKC International Grand Prix is famous for its tall obstacles, challenging course, and large purse, but it is also one of the four grand prix that count towards the Rolex Grand Slam. In order to be crowned the Grand Slam Champion, a rider must win three of the four grand prix that count towards the title. After his victory, Fuchs is just one win away from earning an additional €500,000 and two more wins away from receiving an additional €1,000,000. The stakes are high– will Fuchs be able to perform under the pressure at CHI Geneva?
