On April 10, the varsity lacrosse team won their home game against Hamilton West 20-18 and in addition to the victory, they celebrated senior Emily Ix’s 100th goal. Emily’s teammates made a poster and waved on the sidelines; Maya brought brownies; Mr. Lee even retrieved the ball that the goal was scored with. The funny thing is, Emily did not even know she scored her 100th goal when she scored it!
“I have been playing lacrosse since fifth grade and…not having my freshman season [due to Covid] makes me more grateful to play and enjoy every second of being on the field,” Emily shared. “I am very grateful to be a part of a team where everyone is very supportive, positive, tries new things, and puts themselves out there. I am looking forward to playing club lacrosse in college next year.”
Emily also had amazing things to say about her coach, Missy Bruvik.
“I’m really lucky and grateful to play lacrosse for Ms. Bruvik, as she is such a supportive and loving coach,” noted Emily. “I’ve known her my whole life at Stuart. She is great at bringing people together and bonding our team and is always helping me to improve my game and leadership skills. She is always happy for me when I accomplish my goals.”
Emily credits her status as a student-athlete (all three seasons, but who’s counting?) for her impeccable time management skills. She said it is one of the greatest gifts she’s been given at Stuart. She uses all of her free periods to complete work and does her best to go to bed early.
For any new members of the lacrosse team looking for advice, Emily had some to share: “Enjoy all of the time with teammates and coaches, work hard to improve skills on and off the field, and savor every season because they go by very fast.”
