Fall is already upon us here in Princeton, and with it comes warm soups and bread perfect for chilly weather. Many people crave earthy, fresh, and organic foods from local farms– and Agricola advertises just that.
Situated on 11 Witherspoon Street, Agricola is known for their farm to table style of dining. Their food is sourced from local farms, as advertised on their website. Every meal is meant to be enjoyed with family and friends. In the spirit of fall, we decided to head down to Princeton and check it out.
Set in a dimly-lit, rustic room the seating for Agricola is a little rough. The theme of the room matches the earthy food, but the old style may not be for everyone. Another issue we encountered was the cell-service and Wifi. There is no reception within the building, and during our visit the wifi service offered did not function correctly. Some people may have an issue with being disconnected– so fair warning to any tech dependent customers.
The seating itself didn’t take away from the value of the food though– the Autumn Squash soup was a delightful appetizer. The combined tastes of the earthy squash and mild spices set a good tone for the rest of the meal.
Following the soup we ordered the LoRé pumpkin ravioli and the local mushroom flatbread. The ravioli had a mild flavor, and few sweet notes from the pomegranate seeds. Cashews were sprinkled on top, which added a satisfying crunch. The mushrooms on the flatbread were doused in black truffle oil, and filled the mouth with flavor. The ricotta cheese was rich and mixed well with the spinach. Both dishes were exceedingly delectable.
The food is delicious– but what about the prices?
“These prices seem pretty average for me– but then again I am used to New York prices,” commented Glenn Van Orden, a customer of Agricola. To some these prices might be on the expensive end, but it does depend on the buyer. Most of the people who left reviews would agree the food is certainly worth the money.
Overall, I rate the restaurant a 7.5/10. The seating and and service was a 6/10, while the food and presentation was rated a 9/10.
